NYC activists drop banner in Trump Tower

Wild action on Thursday as a group of New Yorkers dropped a banner in Trump Tower reading "STOP THE NEXT JAN 6!" They chanted, "We the people defend the Constitution! We the people defend our vote!"

A couple of Trump Tower visitors look up at activists hanging a "STOP THE NEXT JAN 6" banner from the balcony.

Tourists getting a bit more than they expected.

The police ambled towards the escalators when the chanting started. Not a ton of urgency or alarm.

Protestors ride the escalator down to the ground floor after finishing their banner drop. Smiling, fists in the air.

The protestors left without incident after the banner drop and no one got arrested. But as they exited, the '80s music on the sound system got VERY LOUD, as if someone had been instructed to drown them out and got to it a bit late.

A police officer raises a finger at a protestor as the protestor turns to cheer to the crowd before exiting Trump Tower.

Word to the wise: this was my first time in Trump Tower, and they've basically got a little mall in there - which has public restrooms! Little hard to find - on the bottom level. But you can use 'em for free! As a Bluesky mutual informed me, the atrium of Trump Tower is actually a "privately owned public space" that must be open to the public for certain hours.
