Scenes from Brad Lander's victory party in NY-10

Brad Lander celebrated his victory in the general election for the NY-10 congressional seat Tuesday night at Drums and Flats in Brooklyn. Get ready for loads of images! But first, please be dazzled and inspired by the closing section of Lander's victory speech in which he cites Rabbi Hillel:

Beautiful ending to @bradlander.bsky.social 's victory speech, citing Rabbi Hillel: "If I'm for myself and my people only, who am I? ... If you're for yourself only, you're not really human..."

"If I'm for myself and my people only, who am I? ... If you're for yourself only, you're not really human..."

"It is by standing up for ourselves AND by fighting for each other that we discover our humanity."

There it is. None of us are free until all of us are free. Nobody goes under the bus. Solidarity forever.

Thrilled to have Lander as my next US rep.

Lander thanked a load of people and orgs for the many years of work that led up to this moment. If I'm remembering right, at this point he was shouting out Jews for Economic and Racial Justice - and said he'd been a member since 1994!

Those crazy kids!

People in the audience at Lander's victory party stand, beaming and applauding.

A jubilant, emotional crowd. That's Katie Unger from JFREJ in the JFREJ t-shirt. And you can see just a bit of Rabbi Jill Jacobs on the far right. Lander talked about being detained by Israeli authorities in the West Bank with Jacobs and others for helping Palestinian farmers harvest olives. He gave Jacobs special honor, saying she was detained much longer than he was. You can hear Jacobs describe her experiences in this NPR interview.

In the photo at the top of the page, neighbors on the other side of the fence reached over to high five him. Outstanding vibes.

The event took place in the backyard of a bar. Neighbors watched the speech from the other side of the fence and reached over to high five Lander after he finished. Outstanding vibes.

Tremendous night.

I will note that the ONLY line in Lander's victory speech that was met with SILENCE from his most ardent supporters was when he said he looked forward to voting for Hakeem Jeffries as the next Speaker of the House. Here's hoping he rethinks this one!
